It is claimed that this breed of dogs originated in France in the 1500s. It was developed by French nobility to hunt rabbit, hare, and other small game. The dog’s body is shaped specially to help it hunt. The American Kennel Club recognized the breed in 1885. The basset hound perro rescues will take any dog of this breed as a rescue.
